'Dancing Chris' who was banned from town centre for four years is jailed

A regular pest nicknamed 'Dancing Chris' has been locked up for entering Warrington town centre a week after being banned by a court order.

Christopher Berry, who earned the nickname for dancing along the side of roads in the town, made such a nuisance of himself he was banned from entering the town centre for a period of four years.

The 64-year-old, of Lovely Lane, Whitecross, was made the subject of the Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) on Friday, January 17, after an application by Cheshire Police at Warrington Magistrates' Court.

However on Saturday (January 25) Berry was spotted on Winmarleigh Street by officers and arrested.

He was charged with breaching the terms of the CBO and jailed for 12 weeks, having pleaded guilty to the offence.

The Warrington Guardian reports since June last year Berry has been in regular trouble with the law including by fighting, threatening violence, being drunk and disorderly and public urination.

The paper adds that officers described Berry's behaviour in court as a "drain on the force’s resources."
