Dancers in Black Sabbath musical will headbang and rock out with air guitar moves

A new ballet set to the music of Black Sabbath promises to be a bit more headbanger than Nutcracker.

The quirky show is being planned for later this year.

And the heavy metal legends – led by ‘Prince of Darkness’ Ozzy Osbourne, 74 – have warned organisers that their fans will want to get off their trollies and play air guitar.

Ozzy, who famously bit the head off a bat on stage in 1982, formed Sabbath with Tony Iommi, 75, in Birmingham in 1968.

And now the Birmingham Royal Ballet plans to honour the band by performing hits such as Paranoid, Iron Man and War Pigs.

The dancers are expected to head bang and play air guitar as part of the show, which will also feature soundbites of interviews with Ozzy and his wife Sharon.

Iommi said: “It’ll be great… it’s so different. Maybe we’ll get people up and shouting along.

“I know from our fans there’s a lot of excitement to see the show.” BRB director Carlos Acosta added:

“We want people to leave with huge smiles on their faces humming these great tunes.”

* Black Sabbath: The Ballet will open in Birmingham on September 23 before moving to Plymouth and London.
