Dancer John Nolan swaps Dancing With The Stars for Disney's new Disenchanted movie

Dancing With the Stars pro John Nolan has swapped Ireland for Andalasia after landing a job as a dancer on Disney’s Disenchanted.

The sequel to the hit 2007 movie has been filming in Ireland for the past several weeks and has generated great excitement among star spotters, all eager to catch a glimpse of the films leads Patrick Dempsey and Amy Adams.

However, John will be catching more than a glimpse of the pair after landing the plum role.

Taking to Instagram, he posted a group shot with his fellow hoofers and wrote: “Very excited and grateful to get to work with this insanely talented group of people #disenchanted #disney."

He also posted a solitary black and white picture of himself holding his trainers captioned: “Very grateful for such a brilliant week of rehearsals."

John is a fan favourite with Dancing With The Stars audiences and was with the show from day one. In 2017, he was partnered with RTÉ News reporter, Teresa Mannion, but they were eliminated in week eight of the competition, finishing in seventh place.

In 2018, his partner was actress and comedian, Deirdre O'Kane and they finished joint-runners up alongside, Anna Geary and Kai Widdrington.

However, in 2019 he finally hit the jackpot when he was paired with television and radio presenter, Mairéad Ronan, and ultimately won the series.

His 2020 partner RTÉ broadcaster, Mary Kennedy, with whom he reached the ninth week of the competition, commented on his posts saying: “What a wonderful adventure. Enjoy John. And they’re lucky to have you and the other great Irish dancers x."

John, 30, from Kilkenny, has been dancing since the age of three. During the course of his career he has been Irish national ballroom and showdance champion.

He also runs Xquisite Dance Group who famously competed in Ireland's Got Talent and received a Golden Buzzer from Denise Van Outen at their audition. The troupe eventually finished as runners-up in the grand final.

In January, Disney issued an open casting call for dancers that said: "We are looking for Irish technically trained dancers for an upcoming musical feature film to be shot in Ireland.

"Seeking dancers to play characters ranging from 18 years to 60 years - all ethnicities, shapes and sizes are welcome."

Disenchanted is due for release next year. RTÉ has yet to announce whether or not there will be another series of Dancing With The Stars.
