Dancer Hayley Erbert marks first Valentine's Day after recovery

Hayley Erbert Hough

Hayley Erbert and Derek Hough are celebrating their first Valentine's Day as newlyweds! After a challenging time that involved a medical scare and subsequent recovery, the professional dancer took to Instagram to express her love for her husband and reflect on their journey together.

In a heartwarming Instagram post, Erbert shared a series of photos showcasing their love story over the years. She expressed her ever-growing love for Hough, stating, 'I love you more and more every single day. Happy (first) Valentine's Day, husband!'

The couple tied the knot in August 2023, marking a significant milestone in their relationship. However, their journey hasn't been without obstacles. Just two months ago, Erbert underwent an 'emergency craniectomy' after experiencing a cranial hematoma during their tour stop in Washington, D.C. Following the initial procedure, she underwent another surgery on December 20 to replace a large portion of her skull.

Throughout this challenging time, Hough took to social media to express his gratitude for the overwhelming support from fans and loved ones. He acknowledged the role played by their unwavering support in Erbert's recovery, stating, 'We are filled with hope and optimism for the future, knowing she is on the path to a full recovery, surrounded by such a loving community.'

Recently, the couple opened up about their journey and Erbert's recovery in an emotional video shared on Instagram. They described their experience as having 'the highest of highs to the lowest of lows.' Hough commended his wife's strength and perseverance, stating, 'She really is a miracle, and it's been miraculous, and it's still a journey.'

Erbert also spoke about her recovery and the ups and downs she has faced since her craniectomy. She acknowledged that there are still good and bad days, both emotionally and physically, but expressed gratitude for the progress she has made. She described her post-surgery outlook on life as new, stating, 'I'm grateful to be alive and be here to tell my story.'

During their video, Erbert revealed her short hair and surgery scar on the top of her head while expressing appreciation for the support they have received from their fans. She also mentioned a fluid sac on the side of her face that is expected to diminish over time.

Hayley Erbert and Derek Hough's love story is truly inspiring. From facing challenging medical circumstances to celebrating their first Valentine's Day as husband and wife, their journey embodies strength, resilience, and the power of love. As they continue to move forward with hope and gratitude, their story serves as a reminder that even in the face of adversity, love prevails.
