The Kirov comes close to throwing its classical image to the winds in this short season of contemporary and neo-classical repertory. In Programme 1, it repeats the all-Forsythe evening that was given an all too brief outing at the Royal Opera House two years ago in which the St Petersburg dancers superbly and confidently present their own stylistic take on works such as Steptext and The Vertiginous Thrill of Exactitude. Programme 2 will take the dancers further back in time and style to works by Balanchine - Tchaikovsky Pas de Deux, Apollo (danced by Igor Zelensky) and Prodigal Son (led by Mikhail Lobukhin) - plus there's the UK premiere of Alexei Ratmansky's Middle Duet.
