Over the last two decades, Belgian collective Les Ballets C De La B has been a powerhouse of dance theatre production, producing from its ranks choreographers of the calibre of Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui. This season, the company's founder, Alain Platel, returns to London with the UK premiere of his own new work, pitié!, which is inspired by Bach's Matthew Passion. For this project Platel has renewed his collaboration with Fabrizio Cassol (the composer of his previous work Vsprs), examining Bach's composition and the story of the Passion from the perspective of Christ's mother to create a highly physical translation of intense emotions. A superb cast of 10 dancers, eight musicians and three singers look at the themes of suffering, sacrifice and sympathy.
