Matt Riddle has come a long way since he was released by the UFC in 2013.
For years after his forced departure from the world’s most high-profile MMA promotion following positive marijuana tests, Riddle and UFC president Dana White engaged in a war of words.
In the years since his release, Riddle has openly vocalized his dislike for MMA fans’ attitudes and White himself, through social-media posts and interviews.
Fast forward to 2019 and Riddle has become a major star in the world of pro wrestling. After he garnered a cult following on the independent wrestling scene from 2014-18, Riddle signed with the WWE in July 2018.
In a recent interview with Barstool Sports, White was asked about Riddle’s recent success and whether or not he regretted the decision to part ways with him.
“I’ve heard interviews with Matt Riddle and he’s very fired up about being let go and everything,” White said. “At that place and time where we were, it was the right move. But I’m happy for him. I’m happy he’s been successful and he’s doing well. I don’t wish the kid any ill will.
“I don’t hate Matt Riddle or dislike Matt Riddle in any way. I know he feels the opposite, as he should. But I don’t wish him any ill will or anything like that, but no, I don’t regret the decision I made at that time.”
In an Instagram post Friday, Riddle shook off White’s recent well wishes and blasted the UFC president. The MMA fighter-turned-professional wrestler ripped White calling him a “heartless moron” and “little bald (expletive).”
“Dana I’m not mad that you fired me I’m mad because you’re a heartless moron with (too) much money and power and felt the need to call me a loser after you fired me when I was on a 4-fight win streak and had my 3rd child almost bankrupting me,” Riddle wrote.
“Also to say it was the right call to fire me is the dumbest thing ever, you literally tried to ruin my career/life because your a little bald (expletive) that couldn’t control me, so stop lying it’s sad bro.”
Riddle earned victories in each of his last four UFC bouts, however, two were then overturned and changed to no-contests following failed drug tests.
