Dana White reveals mutual interest in recent Floyd Mayweather talks: ‘Floyd wants to fight’

Dana White and Floyd Mayweather are still talking business.

Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, the UFC president and Mayweather were spotted a Nov. 20 NBA game in Los Angeles. It was later confirmed by both parties the two had talked business and liked the way the conversations were trending.

On Wednesday, White confirmed that the talks are still ongoing. In an Instagram live stream with Yahoo Sports, White revoiced the mutual interest with Mayweather, as the two hope to work together.

Additionally, White reiterated Mayweather is interested in fighting again.

“Floyd wants to fight,” White said. “… He wants to fight. We’re going to probably.. listen, I’m dealing with all the (expletive) that’s going on with 2020 right now. Floyd and I want to work together. We want to do something. We’re going to do something. I just need a little more time to get my (expletive) together.”

White did not elaborate on whether Mayweather is interested in competing in boxing or in MMA.

Mayweather, 43, has not boxed in a professional match since an Aug. 2017 bout against Conor McGregor, in which he ran his record to 50-0 with a 10th-round TKO. Mayweather’s previous fight came in Sept. 2015.

Despite the legendary boxer’s inactivity over the past five years, White isn’t concerned. He says any questions will be answered if and when Mayweather returns to action.

“No, it doesn’t concern me, but those are things that will all factor into the fight,” White said. “Those are all things that will factor into the fight, 100 percent. … I don’t know. Those are questions that will be answered when you put the fight on. The Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather fight was the perfect storm. That thing was built from the fans to the media and became what it became.”

When asked about McGregor, a fighter who has voiced interest in a rematch with Mayweather since the first meeting occurred, White kept his answer short.

“Conor McGregor is retired,” White said. “Yes, Conor McGregor is retired.”
