UFC president Dana White has reflected on the death of Allan Nascimento, a week after the flyweight’s sudden passing.
On 3 August, Nascimento died at the age of 34 from an apparent heart attack, reportedly during his sleep.
The Brazilian had fought in the UFC since 2021 and had competed as recently as June, when he lost to Mitch Raposo.
“I mean, it’s horrible,” White told media on Monday. “And I know that his whole crew and team were literally devastated. I mean, these guys were so upset.
“It’s just one of those freak, tragedy things that happened to a young guy that it shouldn’t happen to.”
Nascimento trained at Chute Boxe in Brazil, as a teammate of former world champion Charles Oliveira.
Oliveira paid tribute last week, writing on Instagram: “Man I can’t believe it, it seems like a f***ing lie brother, it’s crazy.
“I don’t even know how I’m going to get onto the mat and go to a fight knowing you’re not going to be there.
“It hurts a f***ing lot brother [...] Rest in peace and watch everything. Until after the end.”
There had been rumours that Oliveira might face Arman Tsarukyan at UFC 331 in September, but it was announced last week that Tsarukyan would face Mauricio Ruffy at that event. This led fans to speculate that Oliveira had withdrawn due to Nascimento’s death.
