Dana White: Nate Diaz has one fight left on his UFC contract

LAS VEGAS – It seems free agency could be in Nate Diaz’s future.

Saturday, UFC president Dana White said Diaz (20-13 MMA, 15-11 UFC) has one fight left on his contract. White confirmed the news to reporters at the UFC Fight Night 196 post-fight news conference following a report by Ariel Helwani.

“He’s got one more fight,” White said. “We’re working on a fight for him. Tony (Ferguson) wasn’t one of the guys we’re working on, but we’re working on a fight for Nate now. He’s got one fight left (on his contract).

It’s unknown if Diaz intendeds to re-sign with the UFC or fight out his contract and test free agency. White didn’t disclose any further details on potential negotiations with the native of Stockton, Calif.

Diaz, one of the the UFC’s biggest stars and one of the most well-known names in combat sports, has been angling for bouts with Vicente Luque and Ferguson recently on his social media. He’s also been vocal about a December return date.

The 36-year-old most recently fought in June, when he lost a unanimous decision to top contender Leon Edwards. He’s currently on a two-fight skid with a loss to Jorge Masvidal prior to the fight with Edwards. Diaz’s most recent win was a decision victory over former UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis in 2019.
