Dan Walker update as crash leaves him eating through a straw and 'can't do much with left hand'

It has been three days since broadcaster Dan Walker shocked followers with pictures of his injuries following an road accident that sent him to A and E. However, the popular TV presenter and journalist is still unable to eat or drink properly with his facial injures forcing him to use a straw. The star also revealed that he is unable to use his hand properly after being knocked off his bike by a motorist.

At the beginning of the week, Dan had been cycling from his home in Sheffield towards the train station when he was hit by a car on one of the city's busiest roundabouts. While Dan reassured fans that "amazingly" he had no broken bones following the collision, he added that he also had "no memory" of the accident. He said: "I think I got hit by a car but was out cold for about 20 minutes." The former BBC Breakfast presenter explained: "I came round on the tarmac with paramedics and police standing over me."

Shortly after the crash he tweeted a picture of himself, battered and bruised and in the back of an ambulance on the way to hospital. He wrote: "Bit of an accident this morning. Glad to be alive after getting hit by a car on my bike. Face is a mess but I don’t think anything is broken. Thanks to Shaun and Jamie for sorting me out and the lovely copper at the scene." Adding: "This is my smiling. Thankful for our NHS "

While Dan is now at home recovering and updating his thousands of followers on social media sites he is clearly still reeling from his ordeal and taking some well earned rest. On Tuesday, he wrote on Twitter: "Best thing about being in bed drinking through a straw… #FullSwing on Netflix". He followed it up with "The other good thing is that Made By Jonty have just posted some cakes - I’ll get them in the blender".

Things didn't look much better yesterday either, while out of bed he was still struggling to eat. Posting a thank you to a local curry house which had made a delivery he told followers that he would be "sucking the sauce off a poppadom" after receiving his "get well soon curry".

Over on Instagram, celebs were quick to respond to Dan's recount of event. After revealing: "Smashed my watch & phone, ruined my trousers, my bike is a mess but I’m still here". Continuing: "Currently eating soup through a straw and being looked after by a gorgeous, furry, tired nurse at the end of the sofa," referring to his dog Winnie, he advised fellow cyclists: "The helmet I was wearing saved my life today so - if you’re on a bike - get one on your head.

Eamonn Holmes replied: "Blimey ...... that's going to be some Make up job mate ! ... But by the grace of God delighted that you are still with us. Please get better soon Dan". Dermot O'leary added: "Very ‘Rocky in the 12th round’ Dan. Glad you’re ok champ x" Zoe Ball added: "good grief chap. that's gonna hurt but thank goodness you're safe." With over 46k likes on the post, Dan replied: "Thanks for all the messages you lovely humans. Can’t sleep… too many painkillers".

The Mirror spotted another health update writing that Dan had shared a snap of his food alongside the caption: "I was just thinking about tea but can't do much with my left hand at the minute so these babies have arrived just at the right time,"

In a statement from a spokesperson for South Yorkshire Police, the force said: "No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing."
