Dan Walker replaced on Channel 5 News tonight after horror hospital dash

Dan Walker will not be appearing on his usual Channel 5 news hosting slot tonight after he was involved in an accident, it has been reported.

Former Strictly Come Dancing star Dan, 45, shared photos of his bloodied and bruised face as he sat on a gurney in an ambulance following the horror accident.

He was scheduled to present 5 News at 5pm today, but will reportedly not appear on the Channel 5 programme this evening.

Dan will be replaced by Tessa Champan, who will front the news show instead, according to reports. Tessa is a chief correspondent and presenter for the programme.

Dan tweeted to share three photos to shoe the extent of his injuries this morning and thank the paramedics who helped him.

One photo shows the presenter posing alongside two ambulance workers who smiled at the camera.

As he posted the photos to his Twitter feed, Dan wrote: "Bit of an accident this morning. Glad to be alive after getting hit by a car on my bike.

"Face is a mess but I don’t think anything is broken. Thanks to Shaun and Jamie for sorting me out and the lovely copper at the scene."

He then joked: "This is my smiling," before adding a laughing face emoji before gushing: "Thankful for our NHS," followed by a red heart emoji.

Followers soon replied to Dan's tweet to share their concerns for Dan and send him well wishes.

Jeremy Vine wrote: "Dan, so sorry to hear this. Looks really painful. Hoping for a good recovery. Sending love."

Presenter Mike Bushell added: "Aw Dan. Sorry to hear this. Glad you’re in one piece and are going to be ok and in good hands. Speedy recovery."

While Strictly Come Dancing judge Motsi Mabuse added: "Oh wow !!! Get well soon".

Dan didn't reveal where the accident took place, but last night he posted a photo of the sky over Sheffield on Instagram.

He gushed: "I hope you've had a lovely weekend" writing on top of the image before tagging Sheffield as the location.

Dan joined Channel 5 last year and quit the BBC after 13 years at the broadcaster – and hosting BBC Breakfast since 2016.

He announced the news in April last year as he said: "Hello, it's Dan here. I have a little bit of news for you. In the next few weeks, I'm going to be leaving BBC Breakfast and moving to 5 News and to Channel 5.

"I'm really excited but this has also been a massive decision for me because I love BBC Breakfast, I love working alongside Sally [Nugent] and I love the team there.

"But Channel 5 came with big ambitions, with big plans and I don't think opportunities like this come around very often and I can't wait."

He added: "I've also had the incredibly privilege of working on some iconic programmes over the last few years, both at the BBC and elsewhere and what I love about this deal is I not only get to present the news, but also host a whole range of programmes right across the channel.
