Dan Walker reacts to viewer comments after Channel 5 debut

Former BBC Breakfast host, Dan Walker, has finally made his Channel 5 News debut. The presenter's first appearance on 5 News aired on Monday, June 6.

It was a busy first shift for Dan after it was announced earlier in the day that a vote of no confidence in Boris Johnson would take place. The 45-year-old opened his first episode from Downing Street, while fellow presenter, Claudia-Liza Vanderpuije, reported from the C5 studio.

Dan joked that it was "nothing like a quiet start" as he reported on developments, with many people at home praising his debut. You can read more on this here.

Following the episode, Dan thanked fans for all their "lovely comments". He wrote: "Thanks for all your lovely comments. Great to work with the team at @5_News. We'll see you tomorrow."

Dan also responded to a viewer who had really enjoyed the show. The broadcaster replied: "Thank you so much for watching. See you tomorrow at 5, on 5."

The presenter also tweeted a "special thank you" to his producer. He wrote: "Special 'thank you' to producer Christina (in the middle next to Jess) who came in on her day off to pull the Downing Street strings."

The Football Focus star left BBC Breakfast after six years on Tuesday, May 17 to replace Sian Williams on Channel 5. Welsh journalist Williams announced her decision to leave in March of this year.

Explaining his decision earlier this year, Dan told followers: "Channel 5 came with big ambitions, with big plans and I don't think opportunities like this come around very often and I can't wait." In the post, he said that "what [he loves] about this deal is [he] not only gets to present the news but also host a whole range of new programmes right across the channel."

Prior to his first appearance, viewers took to social media to wish the presenter luck in his new TV home. SD_Audio wrote: "Best of luck to @mrdanwalker who is presenting his first 5 News tonight and it's from Downing Street."

MattBrownnutt commented: "Quiet news day to start you off" in reference to Walker's politically-driven first shift. JaneTho187448 described how Walker was "doing a brilliant job as always" and called him a "consummate professional".
