Dan Walker furiously slams followers making cruel jokes about Boris Johnson in hospital

Dan Walker has slammed his followers who have been making cruel jokes about the Prime Minister being in hospital.

Boris Johnson is in intensive care in St Thomas' after his coronavirus symptoms took a turn for the worse on Monday.

The BBC Breakfast host, 43, has furiously told his Twitter followers to "show some class" after making unkind comments about the PM's illness.

Dan tweeted: "For those sending around vile jokes about the Prime Minister in ICU... please remember the words of The Queen last night:

"'I hope in the years to come everyone will be able to take pride in how they responded to this challenge.'"

Dan added: "Show some class."

And many of his followers responded to say they are wishing Johnson well in his recovery.

One tweeted: "Totally disagree with his politics but anyone not wishing him well... disgusts me."

"Politics irrelevant. Good wishes to Boris and his family," another posted.

A third said: "Couldn't agree more. This period of time will really showcase people for what and who they truly are."

"Well said Dan. I’ve seen some vile comments. So upsetting. #GetWellSoonBoris," a fourth agreed.

Another wrote: "Unfortunately there are some very sick people around! This isn't about politics! Hope he pulls through!!"

The Prime Minister was moved to an ICU ward at London's St Thomas' Hospital in order to be closer to ventilators yesterday - although he is not currently using one.

He could have four litres of oxygen pumped into his system as well as blood samples taken from his throat during his treatment.

The UK has now entered its third week on coronavirus lockdown, as the death toll has increased by 441 to 5,375.
