Dan Walker forced to apologise on Twitter after Football Focus f-bomb storm

BBC presenter Dan Walker took to Twitter to issue a grovelling apology after Football Focus viewers heard an f-bomb dropped on Saturday's episode.

The programme was being filmed live in a studio for the first time since March 14 owing to the coronavirus outbreak, with Dion Dublin and Micah Richards joining Walker.

The offending clip, however, was from a pre-recorded interview was former Love Island contestant Josh Denzel chatted with Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha.

The faux pas happened when Denzel was telling Zaha about the efforts during lockdown of his housemate John, who also happens to be an Eagles fan.

"The thing is, yeah, my housemate John is a massive Palace fan. He rowed f****** five marathons in five days on the rowing machine," Denzel was heard telling the Ivory Coast international.

However, it seems someone in the editing room forgot to do their job as the clip was broadcast uncensored, with the show's young audience understandably shocked at what they had heard.

The error occurred in a pre-recorded part featuring Josh Denzel and Wilfried Zaha (BBC/Football Focus)

That in turn prompted Walker to take to social media following the episode to apologise and explain an investigation was already underway to work out how it happened.

"Really sorry about the swearing you might have heard on #FootballFocus today. I know a lot of kids watch the show and we are trying to work out what happened. Apologies," posted the BBC host.

Some were still amazed as to how the error occurred, with one replying: "Wow, how does that get through editing!? I am not offended by it, but still."

Another, though, was able to see the lighter said and commented: "It was a lot of marathons to be fair."

The embarrassing moment came just hours before the BBC are due to show their first ever Premier League fixture on Saturday night.

Zaha's Palace will make the trip to Bournemouth at 7.45pm this evening, and the BBC will hope another swear word does not accidentally make it in to that broadcast.
