Dan Walker has compared Louise Minchin's shock BBC Breakfast exit to a 'break up' as he paid tribute to his presenting partner in crime on Twitter.
On Tuesday morning, Louise, 52, stunned viewers of the morning show by revealing she was quitting after 20 years, saying she'd "decided that is time that I stop setting my alarm for 3.40," before thanking fans for their support over the last 20 years.
While Louise's exact departure date is unknown, BBC viewers were quick to voice their upset at her leaving and so was co-host Dan as he paid tribute to her in a series of Twitter posts.
The first saw him share the video of her surprising announcement, which he captioned: "As with everything she does... Louise announces her departure from the show with dignity and class."
He then posted a number of photos of the pair on BBC duty and wrote: "This feels like a break-up
"What am I going to do without Louise?
"Thank you for all the lovely messages after an emotional morning on #BBCBreakfast - I’m sure Louise will get to read them all later.
"My life will be poorer without her on the sofa. She’s the best."
Louise herself took to Twitter after cameras stopped rolling on Tuesday's edition of BBC Breakfast to post: "Thank you so much for all of your kind messages, they are much appreciated" and she also shared here disbelief at Time actor and former Line of Duty star Stephen Graham tellng her he was "devastated" she was leaving the show.
Responding to Louise's tweet, one fan quickly replied: "I wasn’t expecting your announcement to make me tear up! It’s been a long year. Good luck with whatever you have planned next."
