Around 4 p.m. Saturday, Dan Stern arrowed Crab Claw, a 10-point buck nicknamed for the splits on the crown tines. Stern, a south suburban man, was hunting in Kendall County.
“He was definitely on the hunt for a doe when he crossed the stand before the shot,’’ Stern’s friend Kevin Skopek emailed. “We had actually seen this deer on [trail camera] a few times. ... This is Dan’s buck of a lifetime and will be heading to the taxidermist.’’
BOTW, the celebration of hunting bucks and their stories (the stories matter) around Chicago outdoors, runs Wednesdays in the Sun-Times, as warranted. Submit nominations by message on Facebook (Dale Bowman), on Twitter (@BowmanOutside) and Instagram (@BowmanOutside) or email (BowmanOutside@gmail.com).
