Dan Meis shares new design image after Everton new stadium announcement

Dan Meis, the architect of Everton’s new stadium, has expressed his excitement that construction of the Blues’ future home will begin later this month.

Everton announced on Thursday that they will take control of the Bramley-Moore Dock site on July 26 with chairman, Bill Kenwright declaring: “We are thrilled to be able to confirm that construction work will commence on our new stadium later this month.

"This will be a momentous day in the history of the club.”

The Blues hope to move into their new riverside ground on the banks of the River Mersey in time for the 2024/25 season and Meis, whose firm created the stunning design of the stadium that combines modern glass elements in the roof with traditional brickwork which is sympathetic to the site’s maritime heritage, took to social media to comment on the development.

Meis told his Instagram followers: “So exciting to see we have an expected start date for construction!

“These projects are often long journeys with several twists and turns.

“I meant to share this TBT image of our first presentation to the club from November 2014.

“I love that no matter how complex the structure, a few simple sketches can evolve into a spectacular new home to a storied club for generations of fans…I have never had a project where I felt that I had 25k extremely passionate collaborators!”

With his enthusiasm for online engagement, Meis became a hugely-popular figure with many Evertonians during the design process and despite having worked on UK projects before such as the Manchester Arena, he admits that he has developed a unique emotional attachment to this assignment and now very much considers himself a fan of the team.
