Dan Lydiate lines up for Wales days after dad's death as players honour him

Wales' players wore black armbands against Argentina today following the death of flanker Dan Lydiate's father last weekend.

John Lydiate passed away days before his son was named in the Welsh side to face the Pumas. Despite the personal heartbreak, Lydiate decided he wanted to take the field to represent his country.

Coach Wayne Pivac paid tribute to Lydiate earlier this week, before the news was publicly revealed on Saturday.

He said: "Dan Lydiate is a special person. This is outside of the rugby player, he’s just a top, top person and we talk about putting the team first. He’s one of those blokes: it’s all about the team, what can he do to help other players, what can he do to help the young players, what can he do to improve his own game.

"He’s a great professional and to play 50-plus test matches, you have to be a very good professional and so he ticks all those boxes. Just a good guy to have in the environment."

Unfortunately, Lydiate left the field after just 28 minutes, appearing to suffer a wrist injury.

Ahead of Wales' match against Argentina there was also an emotional moment of silence to mark Remembrance Day.
