Dan Leavy closing in on Leinster comeback ahead of rugby’s competitive return in August

Dan Leavy is closing in on a Leinster comeback ahead of rugby’s competitive return in August.

But James Lowe will miss some of the pre-season after returning to New Zealand for personal reasons.

Ireland international Leavy has not played since suffering a horrific multi-ligament knee injury in March 2019.

That came in the Leinster’s Champions Cup quarter-final over Ulster and the back-row was ruled out of the World Cup.

But Leavy, 26, is making good progress and Leinster said today that he is “in the final stages of his running rehabilitation.”

That suggests he will be close to a return when Leinster are due to face Munster at Aviva Stadium in the PRO14 on August 22.

Leinster returned to light training yesterday and Conor O'Brien (hamstring), Vakh Abdaladze (back), Cian Healy (hip) and Garry Ringrose (hand) are fit again.

But Lowe is back in New Zealand for personal reasons and will have to self isolate for two weeks when he comes back to Ireland.
