Great Britain’s Dan Evans faces one of the biggest challenges of his career when he meets Roger Federer in the second round of the Australian Open.

Federer breezed past Denis Istomin in his opening round match on Monday in a confident start to his title defence. The Swiss has six grand slam titles Down Under – level with Novak Djokovic and Australian great Roy Emerson.

Evans, competing in his first grand slam since his return from a drugs ban, saw off Japan’s Tatsuma Ito to get his campaign in Melbourne off to a winning start.

He is Brtiain’s only remaining hope in the men’s singles with Andy Murray, Kyle Edmund and Cameron Norrie all suffering first round eliminations.

Start time

Evans vs Federer is expected to get underway at 3am GMT on Wednesday 16 January.
