Dan Burn explains what gave him edge over Antony during Newcastle vs Manchester United

Dan Burn suggested he had "extra emotion" during Newcastle United's Premier League victory over Manchester United at St. James' Park on Sunday.

The Magpies secured a 2-0 win over Erik ten Hag's side, with midfielder Joe Willock and substitute Callum Wilson both getting on the scoresheet. United dropped below Eddie Howe's side in the top-flight table and they could potentially find themselves out of the top-four on Monday night if Tottenham beat Everton.

It was an underwhelming performance from the majority of United's players, but Antony - despite ultimately failing to make the most of it - had the measure of Burn during the clash. The Brazilian winger was direct in his play and left the Newcastle left-back on the floor on one or two occasions.

However, it was Burn who had the last laugh, with the boyhood Geordie on the winning side, while Antony was frustrated about being substituted. Asked about his battle with Antony and United after the game, the 30-year-old downplayed the duel and was instead keen to praise his opponents.

"Tough players, obviously, world class players," Burn told Sky Sport. "Antony’s given us a few good games, very skillful, it was just having that extra emotion when I play at home, that comes out sometimes - maybe it goes a little bit too far."

Antony has scored seven goals and grabbed one assist for Ten Hag's side since arriving from Ajax last summer. However, he has not scored in the Premier League since October.
