Dan Biggar replacement identified as 20-year-old reportedly in line to take over

Northampton Saints are said to be lining up a deal to sign Worcester Warriors’ talented youngster Fin Smith as a replacement for Dan Biggar next summer.

Biggar’s contract expires at the end of the season, when he will be 33.

The Rugby Paper say that Saints won’t be renewing and contend that the club are close to agreeing to a deal for 'wonderkid' Smith.

Worcester have recently been handed a winding-up petition over an unpaid tax bill amid speculation the club could be liquidated unless the matter is settled.

The Warriors insist they are working on solutions to secure their future, but losing Smith would be a blow, with the 20-year-old who qualifies for both England and Scotland rated as one of the game’s rising fly-half stars. He becomes a free agent himself at the end of the coming campaign.

Northampton have yet to confirm or deny the speculation over a move for the England U20 international or that they won't be offering Biggar a new package.

Wales captain Biggar has featured 66 times for the east Midlanders since joining from the Ospreys in 2018.

In that time, he has played career-best rugby, with Saints' director of rugby Chris Boyd once describing him as world-class and likening him to basketball legend Michael Jordan because of the drive and intensity he brings to each game. You can read more about Boyd's thoughts on Biggar here.

A potential move to Japan has been spoken about in the media with Biggar himself recently saying how much he enjoyed playing out there during the 2019 World Cup.
