The Cleveland Browns have signed another free agent, but this one has yet to take a snap in any professional league, but he sure has some speed. Wide receiver Damon Sheehy-Guiseppi, who last took a snap in the Junior College ranks during the 2016 season for the historic Phoenix College and no not the online university Larry Fitzgerald advertises for is the newest member of the Browns. It is no secret that Cleveland is looking for a new return man after the departure of Jabrill Peppers.
Damon Sheehy-Guiseppi, Wide Receiver
Height: 5-11
Weight: 181 pounds
It is not often that an NFL franchise signs a player during the free agency period that has never taken a professional snap, but the Browns are reaching deep in the well to find former junior college star in Sheehy-Guiseppi. The former Phoenix College star is listed as a wide receiver, but he did most of his damage as both a kick and punt returner. Sheehy-Guiseppi had a dominant 2016, where he led the NJCAA in kick return yards with 1,278 yards and in kick return touchdowns with four on his way to earning first-team All-American honors.
Sheehy-Guiseppi was also second in the NJCAA in kick return average with a robust average of 32.8 yards per return. As a punt returner, he landed second in the NJCAA with 400 punt return yards. With all of these impressive accolades and a rather impressive highlight reel, it is honestly surprising that Sheehy-Guiseppi has not even had a shot in a training camp, but he will get his chance in Berea this season.
It is rather unlikely Sheehy-Guiseppi lands on the final roster considering the only thing he truly offers is return ability and in today’s NFL versatility is king, but his story line will be a truly interesting one to follow.
