Damon Jones: Kawhi Leonard in play for Lakers with Anthony Davis

The Toronto Raptors are celebrating their championship this afternoon with their fans in the streets of Toronto, thanks in large part to the performance of 2019 NBA Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard.

But as everyone knows, Leonard is set to become a free agent when the free agency period opens on June 30. And while the Raptors season couldn’t have gone any better, Leonard’s affinity for his native Southern California has always been a huge factor. For most of the last year, the only team most have seriously considered is the Clippers. But that all changed over the weekend, according to ESPN’s Damon Jones.

According to Jones, during Monday’s Get Up, the Lakers now truly have a shot at adding Kawhi Leonard to their already strong duo of LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

The only problem for the Lakers is they may not have enough cap space to sign Leonard to a full max. Since the trade is expected to go down on July 6th instead of at the end of July, the Lakers will go from potentially having $32 million to just over $23 million.
