Damon Harrison, Darius Slay will not attend OTAs this week

While most of the 2019 edition of the Detroit Lions are in Allen Park this week for the first three days of OTAs, there are two notable absences from the first-team defense.

Defensive tackle Damon Harrison and cornerback Darius Slay are not attending the voluntary sessions. Coach Matt Patricia indicated “you will not see them” this week in his press conference before Tuesday’s practice, referring to Harrison and Slay.

For his part, Patricia didn’t seem too concerned. He reiterated the voluntary nature of the OTAs and exhibited confidence that both veteran professionals will be in training camp when that kicks off later this summer. Given the context of Washington losing starting LB Reuben Foster to a torn ACL on Monday, it’s not necessarily a bad thing the standouts are not around.

As Patricia also noted, it “gives the guys who are here” more of a chance to work.

Zach Zenner was not present for Tuesday’s open media session after being in the facility for Monday’s practice, which was closed to the media.
