Damon Albarn says Adele feud is 'not even true'

Damon Albarn has played down a supposed feud with Adele, saying it was “not even true’.

The Blur frontman had told the Sun back in September 2015 that Adele’s forthcoming 25 album would be “very middle of the road” and that the songs they had worked on together would probably not end up on the record. Shortly before 25 was released, Adele responded in an interview, saying that meeting Albarn was a case of “don’t meet your idols”’.

However, in a new interview with Time Out, Albarn has played down the idea there is tension between the two.

“It’s not even true,” Albarn said. “It’s amazing how people will run with stuff that has no credence whatsoever and turn it into something and then watch the reaction.”

Albarn added that he was baffled by the internet in general, and recalled reading one of his own interviews on the Guardian and being confused as to whether or not the below-the-line comments were part of the article. “People were not kind; it was … enlightening,” he said.

Still, he failed to clarify exactly how his comments regarding Adele had been misinterpreted.

He was originally quoted as saying: “Adele asked me to work with her and I took the time out for her. And I’m not a producer, so … I don’t know what is happening really. Will she use any of the stuff? I don’t think so. Let’s wait and see. The thing is, she’s very insecure. And she doesn’t need to be, she’s still so young.”

Adele took particular exception to the “insecure” tag, saying that she had simply shared her worries about being a professional musician with a child and asked him for advice.

“He said I was insecure, when I’m the least insecure person I know. I was asking his opinion about my fears, about coming back with a child involved – because he has a child – and then he calls me insecure?”

She added: “I was such a big Blur fan growing up. But it was sad, and I regret hanging out with him.”
