Damning stats behind Leeds United's cup record revealed as fans face 84th-longest wait for win

Leeds United's defeat to Crawley Town was the latest in a long line of poor cup performances that have seen the Whites face the 84th-longest wait for a knockout football win in English football.

The Whites crashed to a 3-0 defeat to League Two Crawley Town in a dismal performance that must rank as one of the worst since Marcelo Bielsa took charge in 2018.

It also extended the wait for a knockout cup victory to 517 days and counting.

That wait ranks as the joint-84th-longest among the 92 Premier League and EFL clubs alongside League Two Southend United.

Steven Chicken, from Leeds Live's sister site Yorkshire Live, has compiled the stats, which show how long clubs have been waiting for a win in either the FA Cup, EFL Cup or FA Trophy.

Leeds' 517-day wait is the second-longest in the Premier League after Crystal Palace, who have been waiting for 694 days for a cup victory.

The Whites' wait will only get longer, too, as they do not face any more cup football until next season, meaning it could be around another 240 days until they get the chance to play again in a knockout competition, depending on dates for next season.

That gap will likely take it to over two years since the Whites last won in a cup competition - a 3-0 victory over League Two Salford in August 2019.

There is some comfort in the fact the Whites have some way to go before they have the worst cup record in English football, with both Wigan Athletic and Huddersfield Town facing waits of over 1,000 days between cup wins.

Yet the embarrassing defeat to Crawley Town continues a dismal recent record against lower-league teams in the FA Cup.

The Whites have now been eliminated in seven of their last nine FA Cup ties against teams from a lower division.

That run started in 2002/03 with a loss to Sheffield United and has taken in defeats to the likes of Hereford United, Histon Town, Rochdale, Sutton United and Newport County.
