Damning stat shows David de Gea is Premier League's most blunder-prone goalkeeper

David de Gea's howler on Friday night was his seventh error leading to a goal since the start of last season - a Premier League high.

The Manchester United goalkeeper failed to stop Steven Bergwijn's strike against Tottenham which cost his side.

De Gea's drop in form can be dated back to last season, but he was still rewarded with a hefty new contract in the summer.

The Spaniard had consistently been on one United's standout performers and was given a £375,000-a-week deal.

But clangers against Watford and Everton earlier this term prove the 29-year-old's woes are not behind him.

Martin Dubravka, Jordan Pickford and Bernd Leno are also guilty of committing the same amount of errors as De Gea.

But United's No 1 came in for scathing criticism from former Red Devil Roy Keane who said: "I'm staggered at Maguire and I'm sick to death of this goalkeeper.

"I would be fighting him at half-time, I would be swinging punches at that guy. I am flabbergasted.

"Maguire and De Gea, I wouldn't even let them on the bus after the match. Get a taxi back to Manchester.

"These are established international players. Do your job."

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer defended his goalkeeper after the match however and laughed off Keane's criticism.

“Roy was a fantastic midfielder, a good friend of mine, but I'm not sure he would have stopped [Bergwijn's shot] either,” he claimed.

“David is disappointed with it but the ball is moving through the air. He also had a good save five minutes after, when we had a bad spell and they looked like they could get a second.”

De Gea's role as United's No 1 is also been questioned with youngster Dean Henderson, currently on loan at Sheffield United, a viable alternative.
