Damien Oliver has scored his first Caulfield Guineas win as a jockey since 1990, after riding favourite Anamoe to victory.

Thirty-one years after triumphing on board Centro, Oliver guided the Godolphin-owned Anamoe — trained by James Cummings — to an impressive win in the $2 million, 1,600-metre race.

Oliver — who had to contend with a wide draw — positioned the three-year-old colt perfectly in the straight, before launching a barnstorming finish over the final 200m.

Anamoe finished half a length ahead of second-placed Captivant, with Artorius third.

It was Oliver's 123rd group-one win.

"It probably panned out the way I hoped," Oliver said after the race.

"I was hoping to find the back of Captivant. He's a good horse and he could take me into the race three-wide with cover.

"It doesn't always work out the way you want it but it did today.

"He's (Anamoe) a nice momentum-building horse and he was able to unleash a good finish down the outside."

Anamoe may be considered for a run in the Cox Plate on October 23.
