Damien Duff praises Denmark players after Christian Eriksen collapses in Euro 2020 clash

Ireland legend Damien Duff has praised the Denmark players for coming together to help Christian Eriksen and also playing on in his absence this evening.

The Inter Milan midfielder collapsed during their Euro 2020 clash with Finland earlier today and required CPR on the pitch as the game was stopped for ten minutes.

There were distressing scenes as Denmark players formed a barrier around Eriksen while he received treatment from paramedics before he was brought to hospital.

After it was announced that Eriksen was conscious and stable in hospital, the game was restarted at 7.30 pm Irish time.

In an emotionally charged affair at Parken Stadium in Copenhagen, the hosts were beaten 1-0 by underdogs Finland in an upset.

But speaking before the restart, RTE pundit Duff praised the togetherness of the Denmark players.

"I'm not sure really how you come back and play. Physically it's not ideal," Duff said before the game was restarted.

"Obviously they've warmed up for the second or third time today.

"Emotionally they're going to be drained. Even from a footballing point of view what's the intensity going to be like?

"But these are beautiful scenes here (as the Danish team huddled).

"If it was possible to bring them closer together, what happened earlier has done that.

"I'm sure they're going to cover every blade of that grass for Christian Eriksen and hopefully get him the win."

The FAI tweeted a message of support for the experienced midfielder, saying: "Sending our thoughts and prayers to Christian Eriksen, his family, the Danish team and their supporters".
