Damian Lewis and David Walliams are among the celebrities helping to raise cash for various charities ahead of the 20th anniversary of 9/11.
BGC Partners, a global financial services company, held its annual charity day on Friday to remember its 658 colleagues and the 61 Eurobrokers employees who lost their lives in the World Trade Center attacks on September 11, 2001.
Stars gathered at Canary Wharf to support BGC and its affiliated companies Cantor Fitzgerald and GFI Group.
The famous faces took part in the charity day and took on the role of traders, hitting the phones to seal deals with BGC Partners’ clients.
All of the profits made on trades on Friday will go to charities including Blood Cancer UK, Help for Heroes, The Pret Foundation and Wellbeing For Women.
While the BGC Charity Day was mainly a virtual event, there were other notable attendees.
Other stars helping out included presenters Davina McCall and Jermaine Jenas, footballer Carlton Cole and Mayor of London Sadiq Khan.
Mr Khan said: “It’s an honour to be involved in BGC Charity Day in Canary Wharf this morning, doing deals on the trading floor to raise money for Mayor’s Fund and other charities in memory of the thousands of innocent people who tragically lost their lives in the 9/11 New York terror attacks.
“My thoughts are with all those who lost friends and family members, and everyone who suffered life-changing injuries because of the horrific acts of terrorism on September 11 2001. Londoners stand united with our friends in America and remain determined to show the world that those who seek to destroy our way of life will never win.”
In addition to BGC’s offices in London, Charity Day 2021 is taking place across the firms’ international offices including New York, London, Paris, Singapore, Hong Kong, São Paulo and Sydney.
