Reports in the US say that Steve jumped from his apartment in Los Angeles and was pronounced dead at the scene at 1.10pm on Monday.
The Los Angeles Police Department have said that they're investigating the death of a man in his 50s in the Century City area of the city.
TMZ reported that Steve had been "depressed" about being isolated and the lack of human contact during the coronavirus lockdown, but it's currently unclear if this had anything to do with his apparent suicide.
Steve became a huge success in Hollywood after dropping out of college to pursue his dream of making movies after inheriting around $600 million from his grandfather, who made his fortune as a real estate developer.
Steve's first big budget movie was the Sylvester Stallone hit Get Carter, released in 2000.
He wrote Kangaroo Jack in 2003, and also notably invested almost $100 million in 2004 movie The Polar Express.
It's thought that his investment in the family animation was nearly half the cost of the entire production, but it went on to earn nearly $300 million in the global box office.
Steve, was was also dad to daughter Kira Bonder from his relationship with former tennis pro Lisa Bonder, was also known for producing flick Hotel Noir in 2012.
Steve met his famous ex Liz in 2000, and they welcomed son Damian together, who is now 18.
