Deep in the heart of the Borneo rainforest, at the top of the tallest tropical trees, Dame Judi Dench felt at one with nature.
Until, that is, the 84-year-old was recognised as M from James Bond, and was asked for a selfie.
Dame Judi, who filmed an ITV special earlier this year, recalls: “I was in Borneo in March and people only seem to know about James Bond. I had photographs taken with people who owned crocodiles – because of Bond. Nothing else, but Bond. It is kind of worldwide isn’t it?”
Dame Judi – who has starred in over 100 films, including seven Bonds – insists she will never retire.
“I am so bored of the question,” she scoffed as she reopened the Ashcroft Playhouse in Croydon, South London.
She said: “You retire in order to walk, paint or travel. All those things. Well, I get to do that.
“I am doing the job that I would retire to do.”
