Dame Joan Collins reveals she's received third Covid jab amid new booster drive

Dame Joan Collins has become one of the first people to receive a coronavirus booster vaccine.

The 88-year-old actress was snapped wearing a straw hat as she was jabbed with the flu virus and a Covid booster in a picture shared on Instagram.

“Delighted to have received the flu jab and booster vaccine at the same time, and have had no side effects. I encourage everyone to turn up when called,” she said.

“Diamonds maybe forever, but the vaccine is a lifesaver. Thank you Drs Ammara Hughes and Raj Gill.”

The new photograph comes as it was announced that there will be a rollout for a third coronavirus vaccine made available, with approximately 1.5million being offered the jab.

The jab will be for those aged 50 and over, working in care homes for the elderly, frontline workers and those labelled ‘extremely vulnerable’.

Health secretary Sajid Javid said: "It is excellent that getting your booster jab has now become even easier thanks to the opening of the National Booking Service to those eligible.

"Booster doses are an important way of keeping the virus under control for the long term and will protect the most vulnerable through the winter months."

The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) said this week that people should receive their booster dose at least six months after they received their second COVID jab.

The Dynasty star received her first vaccine in January, the same day as Queen Elizabeth and Prince Phillip.

Dame Joan’s booster message comes on the same day that she took to Instagram to commemorate her sister, author Jackie Collins, on the sixth anniversary of her death.

Sharing a photograph of the pair as children, with Joan holding Jackie as a baby, she wrote: “Sad thinking about my dear #babysister who left this world six years ago today.”
