Dame Joan Collins pelted with hard bread roll in 'frightening', unprovoked food attack

Dame Joan Collins says she had a rock hard block of bread thrown at her head by an aggressive and drunk fan while she was out dining with a friend in a ‘vicious’ and unprovoked attack.

The 88-year-old was a guest at the Chelsea Arts Club where a close friend was celebrating their birthday when a drunk woman approached the Dynasty icon.

The fan was reportedly ‘swaying’ around and was trying to get close to Dame Joan before being asked to return to her own table elsewhere in the private members club.

But far from calming down, the woman is said to have grabbed a nearby bread roll and thrown it directly at screen icon Dame Joan.

The actress herself has recounted the incident to the Daily Mail – who described the incident as “vicious” – explaining: “A drunken diner who inappropriately wanted to sit with us got upset and threw a hard bread roll at me, and she didn't even have the decency to follow it up with the butter.

“It was a private dinner for a friend's birthday, my once PR Stella Wilson.”

Meanwhile, Stella confirmed the story to the outlet and added: “Joan understandably was upset. Nobody likes to have something thrown at them… Thank goodness it was only a bread roll. That was the frightening part of it.”

The Mail reports that the female diner was then thrown out of the private members club – while the member she was with, who is believed to have been a lord, had his membership suspended.

The incident in question is said to have taken place “earlier this year”.

Membership to the Chelsea Arts Club is via application and with recommendation from existing members – while the cost of membership can be up to £650 per year.

The club was founded in 1890 and has existed at its current location on Old Church Street since 1902 – in a Grade II listed building which features on the National Heritage List for England.

Away from the bread based drama, Dame Joan recently celebrated her 20th wedding anniversary to husband number five, Percy Gibson.

The actress and the 57-year-old businessman shared secrets to their successful romantic life.

Joan told the Mirror: “Our ideal date nights are eating caviar on a baked potato in front of the TV, watching Gogglebox! I’d quite like to be on Gogglebox. We’d be fantastic.”

Percy said: “We go out for dinner but on the whole we love watching a good movie or TV show.”

Offering tips on how to make a romance successful, Joan said: “We give each other space. He has his own dressing room, bathroom and office.”

While Percy confessed: “She gets sick of me! When I’m snoring, for instance… I’ll be told! “Darling, it’s 5am – you’re snoring!’’ Joan does nothing wrong. I never get irritated by anything she does.”
