Helen Mirren certainly knows how to sparkle on the red carpet.
And once again the ageless British actress dazzled at the annual Venice International Film Festival.
The 76-year-old Hollywood star looked stunning in a sweeping silver gown during her first appearance at this year’s special event, the 78th edition of the celebrated awards show.
Oscar-winner Helen joined husband Taylor Hackford for the opening night ceremony, which kicked off with the premiere of Penelope Cruz’s eagerly-anticipated film Madres Paralelas - "Parallel Mothers", directed by Spanish director Pedro Almodovar.
And Dame Helen belied her age as she joined Spanish actress Penelope and a host of other high-profile celebrities as they soaked up the atmosphere on a special night at the star-studded bash.
Helen wowed in her form-fitting dress which sparkled whilst she posed for snappers at the prestigious event.
And for good measure, Helen added a stylish silver clutch to accessorise her bold look, as well as a matching Alice band.
No wonder husband Taylor, dressed in a smart navy blue suit, beamed as he stood by his wife’s side.
It’s certainly been a fab few days for Helen, who has attended a series of fashion shows while in Venice.
Helen even danced in the rain with Hollywood actor Vin Diesel and showed off her moves with the rapper Megan Thee Stallion in a series of fun snaps she posted on her Instagram account.
This year’s festival, one of the oldest awards ceremonies in the world, will run until September 11.
Its judging jury is headed up by South Korean director Bong Joon-ho, whose black comedy triller Parasite won four awards at the 92nd Academy Awards, scooping Best Director, Best Picture, Best Original Screenplay and Best International Feature Film.
Hollywood stars Kirsten Dunst, Timothee Chalamet, Matt Dillon and Maggie Gyllenhaal are just some of the celebrities who made the trip to Venice, with actress Penelope keen to stress how great the awards are for the industry, which struggled during the coronavirus pandemic.
"They are taking measures really seriously, everyone is being really careful, really responsible,” Penelope told Reuters ahead of the opening ceremony.
“I think it's great for the industry that things can start to come back.
"I am happy that it's happening. It's a celebration of cinema but it also gives jobs to a lot of people around the world."
