Dame Helen Mirren celebrates stunning Screen Actors Guild win with showbiz pals

Dame Helen Mirren was the star attraction at the Screen Actors Guild ceremony as Hollywood greats lined up to help celebrate her lifetime achievement award.

In a fun speech the Oscar-winning actress, 76, attributed her career success to her mantra of “be on time and don’t be an ass”.

The 28th ceremony, took place on Sunday in Santa Monica, Los Angeles, after being held as a virtual event last year.

Dame Helen was introduced by Kate Winslet and Cate Blanchett, who described her as “acting royalty”.

“Lifetime achievement, that sounds so grand. I suppose I’m alive so by that measure I’m eligible,” she joked.

“Thank you, SAG, I hate to say the word sag at my age.”

With 13 SAG nominations and five wins, she is the most decorated SAG lifetime achievement recipient.

Dame Helen thanked her fellow “rogues and vagabonds” actors.

“In my experience, which is now considerable... we love and admire each other’s work.

“Together we laugh, we weep, we worry, we change clothes, we throw up and suffer diarrhoea... don’t you? I mean I do.
