Dame Barbara Windsor's husband says she forgets they are married as her Alzheimer's worsens

Dame Barbara Windsor's husband has shared how heartbreaking it is to have to remind his wife of their marriage as her memory fades.

Scott Mitchell, who has been married to the ex-EastEnders star for 19 years, has been caring for Barbara since her Alzheimer's diagnosis in 2014.

He has spoken of how her symptoms and condition has continued to deteriorate because of the "frightening" disease.

Since the EastEnders' legend, 82, was diagnosed with the cruel illness she has been rapidly losing her memory.

Scott, 56, said to the Sun : "Of course I do have to keep reminding her, but that's the nature of the condition unfortunately.

"It's a progressive illness, which is what you have to understand. Her symptoms and condition is pretty much the same, if not worse."

He recalls how she "pulls herself together" for visitors and can hold a conversation, but within minutes she forgets what she has seen or done that day.

He added that it was difficult to watch her go through: "She does well, but it is very frightening for the people living with it."
