The Syrian authorities secured the exit of an armed group from al-Tanf area near the Syrian-Iraqi border, with the militants handing over their weapons and vehicles to the regime's army.

Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) revealed that 28 militants and six drivers from Jaish Maghawir al-Thawra group, which works under the supervision of the US, arrived at Palmyra city where they handed over all their weapons and equipment to take advantage of the amnesty decrees.

The source said eight vehicles, some of which are equipped with heavy machineguns, have been turned in, in addition to five machine guns, three sniper rifles, seven M16 rifles, eight Russian rifles, two RPG launchers, and a grenade launcher, along with assorted ammunition, regular and night-vision binoculars, and communication devices.

On April 15, a Syrian security source revealed that 25 armed men defected from Jaish Maghawir al-Thawra, which is affiliated with the Syrian opposition in Tanf.

The defectors, who joined the regime’s military, were from the opposition’s elite groups, the source told the German News Agency (dpa).
