A 17-year-old boy who was stabbed to death on a bus in Croydon has been pictured for the first time.

Damani Mauge was knifed on a 130 bus at Whitehorse Lane in south London on Sunday evening.

A bus passenger performed resuscitation on Mr Mauge, who collapsed bleeding on the street in front of the Monkey Puzzle day nursery in Whitehorse Lane.

Met Police officers and the London Ambulance Service were called to the scene around 8.30pm, but Mr Mauge was pronounced dead, having suffered multiple stab wounds, less than 40 minutes later at 9.07pm.

A mourner at the scene in South Norwood said: “I’m like his father, I’ve known him since he was a boy. I’ve just been to see his mother. I don’t want to believe it.

"I come from the Bronx. In America, they don’t attack each other like this. What’s the point?”

Police believe the victim was involved in an altercation on a bus prior to the attack.

His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers, police said.

A post-mortem is due to take place on Tuesday.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101, tweet @MetCC and quote CAD6512/8Mar or speak to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
