Railway services on part of the Heart of Wales line are to be halted until the beginning of August due to a damaged bridge near Swansea.
Network Rail took the decision to close part of the line, between Llandrindod Wells and Llanelli, which passes by some of Wales's most spectacular rural sights, after an early morning inspection discovered emergency work was needed.
Damaged woodwork was found on a bridge between the Pontarddulais and Hendy junction.
A spokesman for Network Rail said: "Following an inspection of the bridge on Sunday, July 5 at approximately 7am, it was agreed that immediate work was needed on the structure.
"We are in contact with our suppliers and we are working hard to repair and re-open the bridge by Monday, August 3.
"Rail replacement services are operating and we would ask all those travelling on the affected part of the line to check details beforehand."
Wales' ghost station with just 14 passengers per week:
A statement on the Transport for Wales website reads: "Due to structural damage to the bridge between Pontarddulais and Hendy Junction, it is unsafe for trains to pass over the bridge.
"Services will start and terminate at Llandrindod Wells until repairs are complete. This may take up to eight weeks."
Road transport will be provided between Llanelli and Llandrindod in both directions until further notice.
