'Damage was done' - Nottingham Forest player ratings in defeat to Bristol City

Nottingham Forest put in a better performance, but still fell to a fifth defeat of the season as they were toppled 2-1 by Bristol City.

Luke Freeman claimed their first goal of the campaign to reduce the deficit and give Sabri Lamouchi’s side a lifeline at the break.

But despite pushing for a leveller in the second half, they could not find a way past Daniel Bentley, who was in top form for the visitors.

Here’s how Reds reporter Sarah Clapson rated the Forest players at the City Ground.

Brice Samba: Made some big saves in the first half to keep his team in with a chance. Wasn’t helped by some sloppy defending in front of him, though. Rating: 5/10

Cyrus Christie: Drew a fabulous save with a fierce strike in the second half. Much like many of his teammates, improved after the break and pushed forward. Rating: 5.5/10

Loic Mbe Soh: After such a composed debut, the former PSG youngster looked very nervy against the Robins. Back line was all at sea at times in the first 45 minutes. Rating: 4/10

Tyler Blackett: Defence as a whole did settle down in the second half, but the damage was done in a first period when they were very shaky. Rating: 4/10

Nicholas Ioannou: Not a bad debut at all from the Cypriot. He can certainly pick out a cross, and put some tasty balls in - almost forcing an opener in the first few minutes. Rating: 6/10

Jack Colback: Still looks rusty. Not quite got up to the level we all know he’s capable of. Just a bit sloppy at times - a better second half, though, Rating: 4/10

Harry Arter: Went close with a decent effort in the first half, which forced a save. A spell where the visitors got the better of the midfield, though. Rating: 5/10

Alex Mighten : Can come away with his head held high on his first league start. Could all have been very different if he hadn’t been denied early on, but kept trying to make things happen. Deserved his chance, and should get many more. Rating: 6.5/10

Luke Freeman: Forest had to wait a long time for their first goal of the season - what a way to get it. An absolute screamer. Just a shame it didn’t count for more. Rating: 6.5/10

Sammy Ameobi: A quiet game from the winger, at a time when Forest really could have done with him offering an attacking outlet. Rating: 4/10

Lewis Grabban: Desperately needs a goal and a shot of confidence. Had his chances again - particularly a header from close range in the second half. Rating: 5/10

Subs

Nuno Da Costa (for Ameobi, 59): Struggled to make much of an impact when Forest needed some inspiration from somewhere. Rating: 4/10

Samba Sow (for Arter, 69): Wasn’t afraid of putting himself about as the Reds tried to push for something in the closing stages. Rating: 5/10

Lyle Taylor (for Mighten, 70): Thwarted by one of many fine saves from Daniel Bentley. Contributed to an encouraging spell for the hosts, though. Rating: 6/10

Subs not used: Smith, Dawson, Yates, Darikwa.
