Damage done to Colwick Country Park after Detonate Festival a 'disgrace'

Pictures show the damage done to Colwick Country Park after Detonate Festival took place last weekend.

The park grounds have been churned up by large vehicles and party goers after the festival due to the wet ground from heavy rain that has battered the city and county this week.

A park bench has also been broken following the one-day festival which took place on Saturday, June 8.

This year's Detonate hosted a range of artists including grime star Bugzy Malone.

Nottingham City Council has apologised for the state of the park following the event and has said clean up operations will start next week.

A dog walker who uses the park regularly, who wished to remain anonymous, said the mess was "a disgrace".

A Nottingham City Council spokesman, said: “We’re sorry about the current appearance of Colwick Country Park. The removal of staging and festival infrastructure for Detonate at the weekend has coincided with unusually high rainfall for the time of year, leaving the ground very damp and soft.

“Unfortunately it’s too wet currently to carry out remedial works to restore the park but we hope to start next week, depending on the weather. Any cost would be met by Detonate organisers.”

Organisers for the Detonate Festival were contacted for comment.
