NAKHON RATCHASIMA: The three major dams in this northeastern province are expected to be full to capacity by November, with heavy rain forecast from late September into October, National Water Resources secretary-general Somkiat Prajamwong said on Monday.
Mr Somkiat said the NWR was closely monitoring the dams.
As of Sept 6, Lam Takong Dam in Si Khiu district was holding 214 million cubic metres of water, or 68% of its capacity. Lam Phra Phloeng Dam in Pak Thong Chai district had 101 million cubic metres, or 65% of its capacity. Moon Bon Dam in Khon Buri district was holding 165 million cubic metres, or 60% of its capacity.
With heavy rain predicted over the area from late September into October, it was expected the dams would be full by November, Mr Somkiat said.
Plans were already in place to avert flooding downstream from the dams and divert water into retention areas and other waterways.
