Dalvin Tomlinson says he’s ‘loyal’ to Giants as contract negotiations loom

The New York Giants received several calls about defensive lineman Dalvin Tomlinson at the NFL trade deadline and even rebuffed an offer from the Green Bay Packers. In the end, they decided to hang onto the 26-year-old.

That may or may not turn out to be a good decision as Tomlinson is headed toward free agency. And with both he and fellow defensive lineman Leonard Williams needing new deals, things could get a little tricky when it comes down to the numbers.

But Tomlinson isn’t thinking about that right now. Rather, he’s focused on Week 10 and the Philadelphia Eagles. And when it does come time to get back to the negotiating table, Tomlinson said he’ll be loyal to the organization.

“I feel like the Giants organization… I’m loyal. This is family here,” Tomlinson told reporters on Wednesday. “But I’m not focused on any of that stuff. I’m just focused on one week at a time.”

Whether or not Tomlinson expects that loyalty to be reciprocated during offseason negotiations… Well, he’ll worry about that when the bridge is crossed in a few months.

“Like I said before, I’m not going to really focus on the contract stuff right now,” Tomlinson said. “I’m just coming in every day trying to help the team as best as I possibly can, care for my teammates, and helping everybody across the board improve. I’ll just let that take care of itself in the long run.”

Tomlinson has been one of the most consistent Giants over the past four seasons and certainly one of the most consistent here in 2020. His 77.3 Pro Football Focus grade is among the highest on the team and it’s balanced across the board.

It’s not going to be easy for the Giants to re-sign both Tomlinson and Williams, but it’s clear that both remain part of the team’s long-term vision.
