Dalvin Cook now leads NFL in rushing yards

Minnesota Vikings running back Dalvin Cook is coming off his second impressive performance in a row. After rushing for 111 yards and two touchdowns against the Falcons, Cook followed up with 154 yards and a touchdown against the Packers in week two.

Cook is averaging just over 132 rushing yards per game through two weeks of the young season. The next closest running back to Cook over the first two games is New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley. Barkley, the 2018 second-overall pick, is 38 yards behind Cook with 227 yards.

The explosiveness in Cook’s game has been shown through the first two weeks, with him averaging nearly 6.5 yards per carry. He has shown his speed and agility, but also shown that he can get the physical yards by running over opposing defenders.

It is clear that Gary Kubiack’s zone blocking schemes have helped find more success for the Vikings third year running back. With the Vikings early struggles in the passing game, Cook will need to continue to stay healthy and put up big numbers in the run game.

The Vikings play the Raiders at home in Week 3, giving Cook another opportunity to put on a show in front of the Vikings home crowd.
