Dalton Risner ‘thrilled and honored’ to play for Broncos OL coach Mike Munchak

Mike Munchak is a bit of a legend among offensive lineman.

He was enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2001 following an accomplished career as an offensive lineman with the Houston Oilers/Tennessee Titans. He earned nine Pro Bowl selections during his playing days and was named to the NFL’s 1980s All-Decade Team.

After hanging up his cleats, Munchak started coaching. He’s been coaching in the NFL since 1994 and is widely regarded as one of the best offensive line coaches in the league. So it’s no surprise that Dalton Risner — who was selected by the Denver Broncos in the second round of this year’s draft — is excited about playing for Munchak.

“He is one of the best coaches to do it,” Risner said during a conference call with reporters on April 26. “[I’m] really thrilled and honored to be able to play for Coach Munchak. Just the two hours that I had with him, he was talking about all that he was going to help me with in terms of my technique and how they do things at the Denver Broncos.

“He loved how nasty I was on the field and the way that I play and my physicality. I just mixed well with him and [assistant offensive line coach Chris] Kuper as well as everyone else. I just think that is going to be a coaching staff I am going to do a really good job for and fit in really well with.”

Risner is expected to compete for Denver’s starting right guard spot this summer and he’s probably the favorite to win the job.
