Dalton Risner says Drew Lock was best QB in the huddle at the Senior Bowl

The Denver Broncos selected offensive lineman Dalton Risner and quarterback Drew Lock with back-to-back picks in the second round of April’s NFL draft. Risner will be responsible for helping make sure Lock — or whoever lines up under center — has protection from his line.

Risner and Lock were teammates at the Senior Bowl in January and the quarterback left a lasting impression on Risner.

“I’ve been knowing Drew,” Risner said during an introductory press conference on April 27. “Drew is my boy. It’s not like I just met [him]. He was my quarterback at the Senior Bowl, and by far out of all the quarterbacks there, Drew knew how to control the huddle. He knows how to come in and have confidence and give offensive linemen confidence.

“He just knows what he is doing. When I saw that Drew was coming, I was extremely excited. I also trained out in California with him. I’ve seen Drew around a lot, and I think he’s going to do a really good job.”

At the moment, Joe Flacco is Denver’s starting quarterback so Risner may not be blocking for Lock anytime soon. When that time does come, though, both players will be in familiar positions.

Risner will have Lock’s back when they’re on the field together.
