Dalton Park Shopping Centre announces it will close for the Queen's funeral

Dalton Park Shopping Centre in County Durham has announced it will shut for the Queen's funeral joining a growing list of retailers and shops also closing their doors.

The popular shopping centre in Seaham said its Bank Holiday Monday closure is in respect of the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II and added that they were "deeply saddened" by her death. Some restaurants outside the centre have also announced reduced opening hours.

A statement from Dalton Park said: "Dalton Park will be closed on Monday 19th September to mark the funeral of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Some restaurants outside the centre have announced reduced opening hours.

"Please check with the individual retailer for the latest updates before you travel. Normal opening hours will resume on Tuesday 20th September 2022."

Dalton Park has joined several retailers that have decided to close to observe the national day of mourning. Fenwick announced that it will also close its stores on Monday as a "mark of respect", meanwhile Eldon Square confirmed that a number of stores and eateries inside the shopping centre will remain shut so that staff can watch the service.

Although the centre itself will be open to the public on the day, with reduced hours, from 10am to 6pm, Eldon Square bosses advised shoppers that some entrances to the centre may be closed.

Meanwhile, the Metrocentre said that all of its shops will be closed on Monday and said that just 15 restaurants are planning to open. The shopping centre said it will be opening at 12pm to enable diners to use the restaurants that are serving customers on the day.

Greggs will also close shops around the country on Monday so staff can have the bank holiday off and McDonald's will keep restaurants shut until 5pm. Most supermarkets, including Sainsbury’s, Waitrose, Aldi and Lidl, have confirmed their plans to close for the day but there will be some exceptions.

Tesco Express stores will be open in the evenings from 5pm, and a small number of Express stores in Central London and Windsor will remain open throughout the day. Asda and Morrisons are expected to close their stores altogether or reduce opening hours.
